May 18th is the international Go Topless day for Jeeps! We're kicking off this shindig by hosting the largest event in Southeastern Wisconsin. We'll be opening member trails at The 1869 Homestead and Camp Sinawa for paid members and we'll have Trail Guide Ambassadors taking out non-member and members on the public trails across Southeast and South Central Wisconsin.

Basecamp will be at Sundance Farm Campground in Plymouth, WI in the Equestrian Cross Country Obstacle Course area (enough parking for 50+ Jeeps). The Trail Ambassador tent will be up on site 18. If you'd like to camp with an RV or tent, rent sites in the Equestrian Cross Country Obstacle Course area. http://sundancefarmcampground.com/about/sites.htm The site fees for the Homestead or Sinawa do not include a campsite rental at Sundance Farm.

We'll be camped out at Sundance Farm Friday night and Saturday night. After the rides, we'll have a fire and laughs around the tents.

Raise Funds - We're no longer going to try and raise funds for the non-profit. It's too confusing, the $25 goes to Camp Sinawa or The Homestead as site rentals respectively. Funds are used for site improvements. This is per rig, not per person. If you want to help raise money for the association, buy a shirt.  https://rl4wd.com/store/Shirts-c34840279

Garbage Cleanup Competition - Bring your trash bags and help us clean up the trails! The rig or team that takes the best images of garbage being picked up will win a prize from our sponsors and plaque and online badge from RL4WD. Submit photos in this event timeline or in the facebook event.

Entertainment - Camp Sinawa will have the SCA historical society on site this weekend. Our Trail Guides will coordinate with SCA officials to give us an exclusive tour of the grounds where you'll experience medieval crafts, art, real armor battles, blacksmithing and more!

Trail Guide Ambassadors will meet at Sundance farms and then take folks to the following locations trails -

The 1869 Homestead - Allenton, WI 10am -3pm (valid members only, bring membership badge and $20 per rig) Trail Maps at https://rl4wd.com/directory/businesses/on-trail/1869homestead

My sincere apologies go out for those of you who had to navigate through the lowline trail at the camp, more on that here  https://rl4wd.com/stream/item/15590. While taking nearly two days to painstakingly create a route that was enjoyable for this event, I did not anticipate the amount of time and breaks needed before you would actually get to the camp. It was my goal to provide you with a great experience of both public and private trails laid out in a way the trail guides could easily navigate.

I am not a good event promoter, but I do my best to get these events going so that we can continue to develop trails, education, and recreational endeavors vital to this organization. the Trail Guide ambassadors did an outstanding job of filling in all the gaps taking the material and running with it. Please keep in mind we are at the forefront of this revolution and we are still adjusting and fine-tuning before making it replicatable across-the-board. While many of you are familiar with our fast pace success, things like this take many many months to perfect. We are all out here to have fun and this is our recreation, not our job, so you cannot push a volunteer too hard on these matters.

While we had a lot of delays, this route in map setup worked very well for many of you on Android and Apple devices alike. I am very proud of what we've accomplished because of all of your feedback and dedication to the cause. Know that I am never satisfied with one location or one typical kind of event. these types of things are as diverse as the vehicles and the drivers themselves, and while I've taken a lot of heat from just about everyone, my passion is to provide the tools we all need the host the type of rides we all want. This thing is like an onion and it has many layers, I'm trying to make this onion as easy to understand and navigate as possible lol.

Yesterday was the first attempt at doing a multi-location ride utilizing is many Trail Guide Ambassadors as possible. While we could definitely improve, we still obtained our objectives of the event. I thank each and everyone of you for being part of this. We are pushing the boundaries of what has been possible and because of you the future looks very bright for 4x4/RL4WD Trail recreation in Wisconsin.

    • I thought that the Go Topless Event was a great opportunity for our new Trail Guide Ambassadors to shine. It is impossible for Ryan and Regan to runI thought that the Go Topless Event was a great opportunity for our new Trail Guide Ambassadors to shine. It is impossible for Ryan and Regan to run every single RL4WD Event. Ryan did all of the planning, routing, downloading of maps to our phones, etc. Then it was up to Allen, Chris, Dan, Louis, and myself to make it happen.

The first thing we did was to get all of the rigs in line with me as the lead, and Louis at the end. I went down the line and did a head count and discovered that we had 16 rigs in our procession. I then spent the afternoon following the "blue line" on BackCountry Navigator Pro taking the group on our pre-planned route. Louis and I kept in close communications throughout the event making sure that the group stayed together (especially after crossing major intersections). Allen took the prize for picking up a tire along one of the trails.

We finally made it to our ultimate destination Camp Sinawa where the Trail Guide Ambassadors split the group up into 2 groups. Chris and Dan took one group, and Allen and Louis took another. After some fun navigating the obstacles at the Camp (including negotiating with the Medieval Times people), a great time was had by all.

At the end of the day, Allen, Chris, Dan, Louis, and I could be proud that we had taken the group on an approximately 100 mile journey where nobody got hurt, nothing got broken, nobody got lost, and no disagreements occurred. A big THANK YOU to my fellow Trail Guide Ambassadors, as well as to all of those who attended!

With all of the turns that were made, highway crossings, bathroom breaks and food stops, the group stayed together. No one was left behind. Once again, great job to all Trail Guide Ambassadors and Jeep drivers as everyone stayed together and successfully completed 'Go Topless 2019'. Looking forward to next year's adventure   More ...
